It's Saturday--the first Saturday of the month which means it is men's breakfast at church--and Tom's not there. The breakfast has been such a big part of his life ever since coming to Bear Creek. One of Tom's greatest gifts has been his ability to talk to anyone, anywhere about most anything. I've always admired that in him. It's hard seeing that being taken away from him. No food by mouth, not much speech and what is there this morning is very uncomfortable means he is not feeling up to the breakfast. It makes me very sad to see him lose this.
Woke up this morning feeling very physically tired so I think it will be a very quiet day with lots of rest thrown in. Am drinking tea from my favorite cup and saucer. No grandson coming to visit this morning--garage sale cancelled due to rain--timing is probably good though I will miss seeing him.
Here's a thought--wouldn't it be fun to open the snail mail box, email or on this blog and see thoughts that people have about Tom--memories, impressions, funny stories? I think Tom would like it.

My first memory, I remember Tom week after week with the Pioneer boys. Kim and Jen were in the Pioneer girls attending regularly back then and we would see Tom, usually sitting with one of the boys going over the material. I did not know who Tom was then, but he was there every week. I knew from looking at the faces of the children they really felt special because he was there.
ReplyDeleteWhen I finally did get to know who Tom was, He would make me feel special too. Always excited to see me and ask how Rick and I were doing, sometimes I would get a friendly hug. A real hug, the kind of hug that made you feel respected and cared about. (not a creepy hug) It was hard not to fall in love with Tom, his energy and enthusiasm, his love of fun and humor and his intelligence...the complete package. A force to be reckoned with, bold man of God, lover of family and friends.
Cathy thank you for sending us your Blog site. Your's and Tom's witness for our Lord Jesus is awesome. We stand with you in pray during these season of your lives. We are so bless to be a part of your family. We love you and give hugs to Tom. All our love to you both,

Ohhh Tom!!!! I have a million memories but the ones that always stand out are when you would just speak your mind:) Like after standing at The Old Fire House for three hours with 400 teens just to support Cody and his band. To see the look on your face when they took stage and only played only a 20 minute set of the craziest loudest music and when Cody stepped of stage you shouted " Don't quit your day job!!!!!!!!!! You had that whole place laughing!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOr when I brought in a cd one morning to play while I opened TDM and a song came on where the guy kept singing "it feels like I'm dying" over and over and over again..... and from the back room as you fried tortilla shells I heard "ohhhh come on die already so this song can end"
Ha, Ha Corey and I laughed so hard we could barely breath
Tom you always have the funniest things to say but it's in those moments that you suprised me with the sweetest little words that are by far my favorites till this day....Like a couple of months after I became manager at TDM I got to place my first Produce order and I ordered way to much stuff:( I was just kidding around with you about not giving up on me because and you looked me and as serious as ever and said "Cathy and I will never give up on no matter what you do" and you brought tears to my eyes...
And here we are all these years later!!!!
